What does this error mean on my One Drop | Chrome meter?

Error 1: This error is related to the test strip. This could happen for the following reasons:

  • If this message appears at the moment the test strip is inserted, the test strip may be wet or damaged.
  • If the message appears during a test, the test strip may have been removed too early. Retest using a new test strip.
  • If this message appears after the 1-2-3 countdown instead of a result, it may indicate that you applied more blood after testing began.

Error 2: This error means that there was not enough blood sample to fill the white test window at the end of the test strip to produce a result. This could happen for the following reasons:

  • The blood sample was put on the test strip before inserting the test strip. The correct steps are to first, insert the test strip into the meter, wait for the fill screen to appear, and then bring the bottom of the strip to the drop on the finger.
  • The blood was "dropped" on the strip rather than touching the end of the strip to the edge of the blood drop to syphon it up in the strip.
  • The lancet (needle) is dull and not puncturing deep enough.
  • The lancing device needs to be set to a higher setting for a deeper puncture which will produce more blood. The higher the number setting, the deeper the puncture.
  • The strip was pulled away from the blood sample before the test window was filled.
  • The strip was close to or pushed against the skin on the finger, which can block the syphon door on the end of the strip. This has to be clear for pulling the blood up.

Error 3: This error means that the test strip is in poor condition. This could happen for the following reasons:

  • The test strip may have been improperly stored (e.g. hot, humid conditions) or may be expired.
  • The test strip may have been mishandled by vigorous bending or shaking. Retest using a new test strip.

  • Parts of the test strip may have become coveredin grease, oil, or lotion. Retest using a new test strip.

  • The test strip port on the meter may be dirty.

Error 4: This error means that the meter was unable to produce a result because of extreme conditions. This could happen for the following reasons:

  • Extremely high glucose. If you are experiencing symptoms of hyperglycemia, contact your healthcare professional immediately.
  • Confirm that you are testing within the system operating temperature range of 50 degrees F - 104 degrees F and operating relative humidity range of 10% to 90%. Testing or storing in a bathroom will often cause this error.

Error 5: This error means that the meter was unable to produce a reliable result. This could happen for the following reasons:

  • Using a non-blood sample.
  • A combination of high glucose and other medical conditions.

Error 6: This error means that the test strip has taken too long to generate a signal. This could happen for the following reasons:

  • A combination of cold operating temperature and high hematocrit levels. Retest in a warmer location

Error 7: This error means that the meter's batteries need to be changed. The meter’s date and time settings will be cleared once the batteries are removed. Remember to pair the meter with the app as soon as the batteries are replaced, so that the Chrome meter date and time can be updated.

CAUTION: If you get repeated error messages and are experiencing symptoms of hypo or hyperglycemia, contact your healthcare professional immediately as this may indicate low or high glucose.
